The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) is the world’s largest chartered Human Resources development professional body, with the stated aim of driving sustained organisation performance through HR. The CIPD offer HR training, qualifications and many other development tools, as well as undertaking other activities such as research on management and development issues.
Based in Wimbledon, the CIPD are an internationally recognised brand, with membership exceeding 135,000.
The CIPD required assistance in the implementation of their www.cipd.co.uk website, with the intention of the new website being to create a platform for better interaction with their members, and to drive more visitors to the site. Moreover, they wanted to provide a richer, more dynamic user experience, and key to this was the ability to promote its large volume of informative content with greater readiness.
Search functionality was therefore vitally important factor in the redesign of the website, with research having generated significant feedback in this area.
Ubertas, as a certified Autonomy partner, offered the CIPD the option of working with the Autonomy advanced search functionality to the website. With strong experience in the project delivery of similar solutions to other large clients such as Pilkington NSG, Ubertas evidenced the capability which CIPD needed for a smooth and timely implementation.
In delivering the project Ubertas built on the Autonomy IDOL solution already in place for the legacy website. Autonomy is the market leading enterprise search and content aggregation software organisation and its IDOL software was used as the backbone for the new site.
Ubertas worked closely with CIPD to shape and refine their requirements in order to build a search function with the greatest possible relevancy, with the outcome being a tool which provides a conversation with the user rather than simply displaying search results.
The Ubertas solution utilises Autonomy to enable advanced, meaning based, search functionality and deliver a more relevant user experience.
Three features were key to the solution, these being Content Aggregation and Dynamic Delivery; Content Push, with similar and related content suggested; and Content Pull, with facetted and dynamic results clustering.
Ubertas and cScape (who were responsible for the overall ownership of the website delivery) completed the project according to plan, with the website going live in February 2011, and Ubertas having completed the design, implementation and tuning of all Autonomy search components.
CIPD members and web users now benefit from the increased functionality which the Autonomy solution enables, allowing simpler access to research documentation, and with web traffic subsequently driven up.
With the implementation of advanced search technology, the CIPD’s core vision for the new website was realised and the user experience significantly enriched.
